Two Weeks of Sickness

So, I've been MIA lately due to the fact that I've been battling a crazy cold for the last two weeks! I'm not one that gets sick very often, but apparently when I do get sick, it hits hard. Let me start at the beginning...

Two Friday's ago, Jan 30th, I started to get a slight sore throat. I nursed it with cough drops, hot tea with honey, and some DayQuil. By Sunday night, my throat was better and I was feeling great. Monday was a normal day at work and I was glad this cold was so short...or so I thought. Tuesday, I woke up with a little cough. Nothing major, just a dry cough. I got some more DayQuil and NyQuil, in hopes that it would stop it before it got bad. No such luck. By Wednesday night it got so bad that KC thought I might have acute bronchitis. It wasn't fun. And the worst part; I had to cancel my flight to Indiana Thursday morning because I couldn't stop coughing and I sounded terrible.
I called my mom early Thursday morning (my flight was scheduled to leave at 6:25am), crying that I really wanted to go, but just didn't feel like it was the best decision. She agreed and told me to just worry about getting myself better. I was so incredibly bummed. All I've been looking forward to for the last two months was going to my brother's basic graduation and now I was going to miss it. I felt like I was letting him down, but I knew he'd understand. I ended up taking some Mucinex DM and slept all day Thursday and most of the day Friday. To make matters worse; Thursday night, I got the worst bloody nose I've ever had in my life. It lasted 20-25 minutes and I almost passed out at one point. As I was laying on the bathroom floor, I honestly thought I was going to bled to death out my nose. KC was immediately on top of it and got my mom on the phone asap. She talked me thru it and I finally got the bleeding to stop. It was pretty scary!

Friday, I was able to Skype with my brother after his graduation (Thank God for technology!). It wasn't as good as having been there, but it was pretty great. He looked so different and like a completely new person. I'm so proud of him and the man he's become. He had lost his voice from lack of sleep and yelling, so we sounded the same; you know, the squeaky voice where only every other word actually comes out LOL.

By Friday night, I was feeling much better and not coughing too much. But again, I rejoiced too soon. Saturday, I woke up with major nasal congestion. I went to Walmart and got some Tylenol Sinus. It got rid of the sinus pressure headache pretty quick, but I couldn't shake the nasal congestion. I even tried Sudafed, but nothing. I couldn't breathe out of my nose and I was starting to cough again.
Monday, KC convinced me to go to the doctor just to make sure it wasn't something more serious than a cold. The doctor assured me it was just a really bad cold and all in my nose. He prescribed me a nasal spray and a cough syrup to control the coughing; which he said was from my nose draining into my throat (Yuck!). Other than being stuffed up, I felt amazing all day Monday. I started the meds and everything was looking up....until Tuesday morning.

I woke up and had hives on my elbows, knees, and ankles. I called my mom. We figured I was probably allergic to one of the meds the doctor prescribed, so I stopped taking them and started taking Benadryl for the hives. That seemed to work.....until Wednesday morning.

I woke up Wednesday morning, feeling fine, went into the bathroom and as soon as I saw myself in the mirror, I freaked out. I had hives everywhere! My face, my neck, my stomach, back and sides, my legs, it was everywhere!! I called my mom. She calmed me down and had me call the doctor and they told me to just stay home, stop the meds (which I already had), and take Benadryl all day and just watch them. So I did. By Wednesday night, my upper body had cleared up, but not my thighs. I thought the Benadryl was working.....until Thursday morning.
Wednesday Morning
I woke up and could tell my lips were a little swollen and my hands were hurting really bad. I went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror and just started crying. I was completely covered in hives again, but this time it was worse than Wednesday (which is really hard to believe). My face was almost completely red, my knuckles on both hands were so swollen I couldn't make a fist. (I'll spare you the picture of that) I had to go back to the doctor because something wasn't right. When it was finally my turn, the doctors and nurses knew exactly what was happening; a serve allergic reaction, but no one knows what to. I got a steroid shot, which hurt more than any shot I've ever had in my entire life and then they sent my home with steroid pills.

The steroid shot cleared up all the hives and so far the pills have been keeping them away. I still have some nasal congestion, but it's slowing clearing up on it's own. I have 7 more days of the steroid pills and then fingers crossed the hives don't come back! It has been a very long and tiresome two weeks, but I am so incredibly thankful for KC. He has been there every step of the way. He helped nurse me back to health and has been so understanding when I haven't felt like getting out of the house. He also kept on loving me even when I was covered in hives from head to toe. I love him so much!

Now, I need to get this house straightened up because it's been getting neglected for the last two weeks! LOL

xoxo
