2014 Reflection

As I sit here thinking about this past year, I can't help but think about how awesome 2014 turned out to be. At the beginning of the year, KC and I decided that we would try to do something new/fun at least once a month. It's a great way to make sure we don't miss out on all the things there are to do here in Vegas. I'm proud to say we accomplished that goal!

Reflecting back on the year, here are a few of the things we did:

> Finally went to the Shrine Circus
 > Moved from our apartment into a house

> Saw the Globetrotters
> Made a couple of getaway trips to Laughlin

> Went to REO Speedwagon downtown
> Visited my family and friends in Indiana

> Took KC to Boys II Men for his birthday
> Finally made it to a comedy show (The Laugh Factory) for my birthday

> Went to the Soul Festival
> Saw Wicked & Pippin
> Visited the Ethel M Chocolate Factory

With the new year, I want to continue our "one new thing a month" plus I want to add restaurants. There are so many restaurants here and we always drive by them saying we want to eat there and then never do. This year, we're going to try a new place each month!

I hope you all have a happy and safe New Year's!

Christmas Was Wonderful

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas. I know we sure did. This year was KC and I's second Christmas living together and it was perfect! Our attempt at making Christmas dinner was a huge success and everything came out fantastic and was so delicious. However, we made enough for about ten people, so we have leftovers galore. Hopefully KC doesn't get tired of eating it this week.

Oh Hey, Friday!

Today, I'm linking up with The Farmer's Wife and September Farm for my first edition of "Oh Hey, Friday."

One. My little brother made it off to the Navy last Thursday. Basic graduation should be in February; we don't know the exact date yet. I'm really hoping I can get a cheap flight to be there for him (Illinois). I'm so proud of him and cannot wait to start writing him letters! I have one ready to send as soon as we get the address. :)
Two. It's been decided that I will be attempting to make Christmas dinner this year. Last year, we settled for a casino buffet since it's just the two of us. This year, KC says we should try it ourselves so in the future, we'll be able to do it for our family. I love future talk!

I can only hope it turns out half this good!
Three. I've been really thinking about finishing my bachelor's degree. It's been a year since I got my associate's and my boss is pushing for the bachelor's. I would love to be able to finish it online because I absolutely LOVED my online courses, but I need to find some friends in this city so campus classes are probably the best way to go.

Four. This week I was on vacation. I ended up with extra time that needed to be used before January, so I took a week stay-cation. It's been wonderful. Even though it didn't start out so nice and relaxing. Monday I did all my errands and finished my Christmas shopping. I also got my whooping cough shot, so now I can meet my newest nephew in January! (Can't wait!) Tuesday was spent researching UNLV and other colleges about getting my bachelor's degree finished. But Wednesday through today has been nothing but fun and relaxation. I taught myself how to knit a hat, I've watched some Christmas movies, got the laundry done, and got my fill of TV shows. It's been amazing!

Five. Christmas is only six days away! I can't wait for KC to open his gifts; he's going to love them! This year has flown by in a blink of an eye. It feels like just last week, we were on the strip counting down to New Year's and watching the amazing fireworks show. I'm ready to make 2015 just as good, if not better, than this year!

Our Love Story: LDR

After a previous long distance relationship ended, I decided that I'd never try long distance again. And I hadn't...until I met KC. There was just something different about him. Something fun and exciting, and something that made me very curious to get to know him better.

After that first weekend (blog post here), I went back home to Arizona and told my best friend/roommate all about it. She convinced me to go back to Las Vegas the following weekend with her (not that it took much convincing lol). I texted KC to see if he would still be there and sure enough, he was there for a few more weeks. And he loved the idea of me coming back.

You see, when I met KC he was in the army; working on getting out. He had been in Las Vegas on leave, visiting family and friends. He was stationed in Germany, so I wanted to see him as much as possible before he went back. My roommate and I got to go back to Vegas one more time before he flew back to Germany. That's when the true long distance relationship started.

We loved going bowling!
KC was persistent. I didn't expect him to keep in touch once he was overseas...but he did! We couldn't talk on the phone much because of high calling rates and our opposite schedules, but we texted...a lot. He was so easy to talk to. It felt like I'd known him forever and it just came so naturally. We would talk about nothing and everything all day, every day, until he went on his last tour. Lucky for me, he was able to get a few texts to me on the weekends and luckily, it was only for 3 months. Our relationship was really tested during that time, but we were both in it for the long haul.

I'll post about our reunion another time :) xoxo

Sketch Artists Are Amazing!

This past weekend, we finally got our portrait done by those amazingly talented cartoon sketch artists out on the strip. I've been wanting to get this done since the first time I saw them and finally we did it!

It's mind-blowing how fast they can do these (it was no more than ten minutes) and it looks fantastic. I can kind of see the resemblance... What do you think??

This is now hanging in our bedroom. I'm so in love!

Her Sassy Creations

I can't believe it's already December! This year has flown by; Christmas is in only 3 weeks. I love this time of year though. So much holiday cheer. This month also marks the one year anniversary of my Etsy shop; HerSassyCreations.

About a year and a half ago, I was having a hard time finding earrings that I liked at the store. My wonderful boyfriend, KC, suggested that I could just make my own, so I did! It became a really fun and relaxing hobby. Then one day, KC convinced me to try selling my creations to others. I setup my Etsy shop and the journey started.

It's been a lot of fun, but I have to admit that I get a little too busy sometimes and can't devote as much time to it as I'd like to. I'm trying to get better at this, but life gets in the way sometimes. I'm sure you all can relate. If you get a chance, jump on over to HerSassyCreations and check it out! Let me know what you think. I'm open to any and all suggestions and/or advice.

Also find me on Instagram and Facebook!

Small Blessings

God works in many different ways. Some big, some small, but all are amazing reminders of his love for us and how he's always watching over us.

Over the last couple of months, we've been looking for a small breakfast table-for-two without much luck. I really didn't want to spend over $100 for one and we just kept striking out. We tried name brand furniture stores (big mistake), small no-name businesses, second-hand stores, everywhere. All were asking prices upward of $180+. We looked at Big Lots time and time again, so I knew they had one that I loved for $165. I passed it up 3-4 times because, again, I wanted to spend less.

After a couple months, I finally decided I would spend the extra money and splurge for the table at Big Lots. I was mentally prepared to spend the money and excited to finally have a place to eat besides the living room couch! We got in the car and headed to Big Lots...no table. The floor display was gone, there were none in the back; it was like the thing never existed! We checked two other Big Lots stores and no one had this table in stock. WHAT!?? Was I upset?? Yes, a little, but I strongly believe that there's a reason for everything. If it's not available now that I want to get it, there's a reason for it....and I was right this time!

About two weeks later (Thanksgiving Day), I was looking at the Black Friday ads online and what did I see!? Kmart had a breakfast table (almost identical to the one at Big Lots) on sale for $90! I was so excited, I ran to tell KC. We jumped in the car, drove to Kmart, and when we got there, they had 6 in stock, BUT this sale didn't start until 7pm! Ugh, I can't get a break! We had tickets to see Pippin at 7:30pm that night on the other side of town. The table was still on sale at this time, but it was $100. KC told me to just get it, but I refused. I wanted this table for $90 and if it isn't here when we get back after the show, then this isn't our table either.

I stayed positive all night. We enjoyed ourselves at the show and made it back to Kmart around 11pm. ALL six tables were exactly where we left them! So happy! We grabbed one as quick as we could, then finished looking around. KC put it together for me the very next day while I was showering. He's the best!

I know it's not much, but sometimes God says no to one thing because he's got something better in store for us. The day after this, I got my vehicle renewal notice. Guess I'll be using the money I saved to pay for that!

Holiday Season

When you live far from family and friends, the holiday season is always the time of the year that you miss them the most. Homesickness really sets in when you think about the family get-togethers you're missing and the socializing going on over all the food that smells so yummy. KC and I have been talking about how nice it would be to live closer to family. Our only dilemma...snow! We both have had our fair share of snow and have NO desire whatsoever to live anywhere that it snows, ever again! This really limits our choices.

I haven't been home for the holidays since 2009 when I still lived at home. The reason for that comes down to two things: 1) snow and 2) plane tickets are so much higher around the holidays. I wish airlines would drop their prices...wouldn't that be nice!? Not to mention, all the other expenses that go into traveling; it can get pretty pricey. I'm thinking, I might try to go home next year for Thanksgiving. It's definitely long over due.

I keep myself busy during holidays to help distract myself from missing family. This year, I booked us tickets to see Pippin, we've lined up some light shows to check out, we're eating at a buffet for Thanksgiving dinner, we plan to check out some Black Friday deals, and then Friday afternoon, we're heading to Laughlin for a weekend getaway. It should be a great time; I can't wait!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Be sure to hug your family and let them know you're thankful for them!

Race Results & Exciting News

Race weekend was amazing! I loved spending time with my friends and old roommates. We had a great time. We tried a Raw Cafe and it was surprisingly delicious. Also, took a ride on the High Roller at the Linq; it was pretty cool. The race didn't go as well as I was hoping/expecting it to. An extreme cold front came in on Sunday so it was freezing! My bones were so stiff by the time our coral made it to the start line (an hour and a half after the first coral started), so I think this played on the pain I experienced in my hips. I did really well for the first half of the race. I didn't stop to walk until after we passed the 5K mark! This is a first for me; in training, I never made it pass one mile without walking. I made it to the 10K mark (about halfway thru the race) in an hour and twenty-four minutes. If I would have been able to keep my pace up, I would have made it to the finish in the time that I wanted, but after the halfway mark, I hit a brick wall. My hips were hurting so bad that I couldn't run for very long without a walking break. Overall, I finished in about the same time as the one I did 3 years ago, so I wasn't too disappointed. The main thing is that I didn't give up and I crossed that finish line strong!

Before the race
After the race with our metals!
Saturday, I got some exciting news....twice! My best friend of 21 years, told me her and her husband are expecting again! This will be their second. Then, later that day when my old roommates got into town, they told me they're expecting again! This will be their third. I'm so, so, so excited for all of them! I can't wait for them both to get here and to meet them.

I took yesterday and today off work because I knew I'd be super sore following the race....and I was right! I couldn't get out of bed yesterday until about 3pm and even then I was still sore; my lower back and thighs. BUT!! I got some more exciting news yesterday that made it all better... My brother and sister-in-law had their little baby boy!! Another nephew for me. He's so adorable! I can't wait to meet him in January. Today, I'm still pretty sore, but at least I can move around more and get some cleaning done around the house. This extended weekend has been absolutely amazing! I couldn't have asked for a better one.

Look how cute he is!!

Race Day Weekend!

Well, it's finally here. Race day weekend. I'd love to sit here and say how ready and in shape for this I am, but that isn't the case. I also can't say I'm surprised. It seemed so far away in August, like I had a lot of time to train and get ready for this half marathon, but of course I procrastinated...A LOT.

However, I do think I'll do better than I did the last time I ran a half. It was almost three years ago and I didn't train at all before that one. My goal this time around is just to do better than last time. That means I need to finish in less than three hours and fifteen minutes! I'm thinking I'll be able to accomplish this. Looking at my training times, I think I'll be able to do it in just under three, but I guess we'll see. My main goal is to just cross the finish line and get that free beer! That's all that really matters right?! KC is worried about me and it's kind of cute. He told me not to end up in the hospital...LOL. I think I can handle that one too!

This week, we have been getting the house ready for my friends. Cleaning, cleaning, organizing, and more cleaning! It's been a long week and I'm ready for my friends to get here and the fun to begin. Two of the girls will get here tonight and then my old roommates will get here Saturday night. I'm so pumped to see everyone. It's been far to long since I've seen any of them! Catching up with friends is always a good time.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. I'll update you on the race sometime next week...that is, if I survive ;)

10 Facts About Me

Want to know some random things about me? Here's a list of 10 facts you might not know about me:

1) Fall is my favorite season and is the only time of year that I miss living in Indiana. The fall in the desert just isn't the same. For the last few years, I've planned my visits to Indiana during the fall so I can see the changing leaves and experience the real fall weather

2) Apple cider and caramel apples are my favorite! It just isn't fall without having a glass of apple cider and some caramel apples.

3) Yellow is my favorite color, but I absolutely dislike yellow vehicles (sorry Dad).

4) I have a single blonde eyelash on my left eye. It falls out and grows right back in blonde. It's the weirdest thing.

5) I'm an extrovert hidden inside an introvert. I'm super shy/quiet when I first meet someone, but once I get to know you -- watch out! I never shut up and I'm completely outgoing. So, don't judge a book by it's cover; first impressions are sometimes wrong.

6) Fairs. If there's a fair in town, I'm probably there. I love walking around fairs, playing games, and eating the delicious food. I'm not real keen on the rides though; maybe the ferris wheel every once in a while, but that's it.

7) I'm completely in love with flying. There's just something so magical about it. The whole experience, from take-off to landing, blows my mind.

8) Hiking and being outdoors is my way of life. I can't stand being cooped up for too long and I can't think of any better place to be than in the mountains. The views, God's masterpiece, are simply amazing and I can't get enough.

9) I'm so stubborn! Not something I'm proud of, but something I've come to accept. If I want something, I won't stop until I get it. If I know I'm right (or think), I won't give up until everyone agrees with me or sees my point. I like to have the last word. "Hard head" has become a common nickname KC calls me. LOL

10) When I put my mind to something, I accomplish it. This kind of ties into me being stubborn. No matter how long something might take me to complete, I always finish what I start. Giving up isn't a solution.

A Horrible, No Good Day

Nothing went as planned for us yesterday...

Britney Spears was accepting an award down at the Linq (on the strip) at 5:30pm last night. KC and I have been planning on going for about two weeks and we were super excited to see her and get some pictures. KC got home from work a little early and we left for the strip. We didn't anticipate the rush hour traffic, but got down there in good time...until we tried to park! We were stuck at a stand still trying to get into the parking garage. Then, when we finally got up to it, we were turned away because it was full...seriously?! Not to mention, we almost got hit about three times because people can't drive We ended up having to make our way over to the next casino to park in their garage. By the time we walked over to the Linq, it was 6pm and we had missed everything! Sadness. We did see an impersonator, but it wasn't the same.

Since we were pretty bummed, we thought we'd stop at the one place on the strip that has our favorite beer (Redd's Ale) on tap to make us feel better. I ordered one and five minutes later the bartender broke our hearts even more...they were completely out! Ugh, really?! We had initially planned on eating somewhere new on the strip, but after all that had happened so far, we decided not to press our luck. The way things were going, we'd probably spend a ton of money and the food would be disgusting. We stopped at Taco Bell on the way home and watched Netflix until bed. Better luck next time, right? We're planning on going to Britney's show soon, so that should make up for yesterday a little bit. I hope you all had better hump days than we did!

A Busy, Fun Weekend

This past weekend was jammed pack for us. Friday, of course, was Halloween! We got dressed up in our costumes and passed out candy to the neighborhood kids and then we went to Fremont Street to celebrate. It was so much fun! People kept stopping us to get our picture, especially KC (he looked so ridiculous, you couldn't help but love it). We got our favorite drink, Tom Collins, and walked around looking at all the creative costumes. Some people had amazing ones that were nothing short of perfect. We had a really good time. And as promised, here's a few pictures of our outfits:

KC won the costume contest at work; yes, he wore this to work!
Saturday was freezing! We went to the UNLV Rebels football game and I froze my butt off. I'm so thankful the lady beside me had a blanket she wasn't using and offered it to me. I'm pretty sure it was only in the low 70's, but my body can't take that cold air anymore. The Rebels lost, but we still had a great time!

We started our Sunday at church. Then we went grocery shopping and relaxed around the house watching Netflix. Sunday night we had tickets to go see Wicked! I absolutely love this show. I went a year or two ago and saw it with my roommate, but KC hadn't seen it yet, so we had to go. It was even better than I remembered it being. It was also nice to get dressed up and actually have somewhere to go (lol).

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! I'll post more when I have more time :)

Thank God It's Friday!

Every Friday I say, "Thank God it's Friday!" or "TGIF!" and most of us do. But at the same time I'm always asking myself, "Where has the week gone? It's Friday already!?" Sometimes I forget how fast time truly does fly by. We get so caught up in living for the weekend that we forget to live and cherish every single day. Saturday and Sunday pass far too quickly and then there we are again, back at Monday hoping for Friday. It seems to be a never ending cycle.

So I'm challenging myself -- and anyone reading this -- to not forget about Monday-Friday. These days are just as important has Saturday and Sunday; you will never get these days back. Live each and every day to the fullest no matter what. Just because you have to go into work for most of the day, doesn't mean you can't do something when you get home. Don't wake up ten years down the line and regret never taking advantage of the time you were given.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween! I'm super excited about my costume (I made it from things I had in my closet) and I can't wait to post pictures of it for you all to see. Be sure to check back after the weekend to see the pictures (we have a jam packed weekend ahead!).

A Fabulous Weekend

This past weekend didn't start out as great as we would have liked, but it only got better!

Friday, KC had to leave work and schedule an emergency dentist appointment because he was having the worst toothache ever. Turns out, he had to have a top wisdom tooth pulled. Thankfully, after he got his prescription filled, he wasn't in too much pain. He could only eat liquids though, so that was a little rough on him. I bought him a TON of soup...all different flavors (best girlfriend award!). We spent Friday night at home with Netflix, relaxing and watching Dexter. I love relaxing nights every once in a while when we just stay home; it's so refreshing to not be on the go 24/7.

Saturday was fabulous! We slept in, which is always the best way to start a day. KC made breakfast; eggs and potatoes...delicious! Then we went to the mall to do a little shopping. I've been wanting to replace my watch, so KC took me to Charming Charlie where I got my last one. I love this store! They have any accessory you'd ever need. Plus, I found a watch that I love!

After a little more shopping, we went to Madame Tussauds wax museum at the Venetian (something that's been on my to-do list for a long time). It was awesome! So much bigger than I had expected and there were a lot of "people"...not sure that's the word I need here...wax figures, maybe? I expected it to be packed to where you have to wait for people to take their pictures before you could get your own, but it wasn't crowded at all. It was so nice. I think it took us about 2 hours to go through the entire thing. We even got to watch a short 4-D movie. It was weird and not really my cup of tea, but it was interesting. We took way too many pictures (over 100), so here are a few:

Sunday, we got up and went to church like we do every Sunday. Then we stayed home and relaxed on the couch and watched our shows. It cooled off in the evening, so we went on a walk and found a Redbox. I got some cleaning done and got everything ready for a new week. This weekend was a huge success!

Healthy Living

Sorry it's been almost a week since I last posted. I got back home Friday evening and spent the entire weekend out and about with KC, getting caught up on the week we spent apart. Then it's taken some time getting back into the swing of my daily work routine. Working from home is so much different than going into the office everyday. Needless to say, I've been so busy and extremely tired this last week!

     Before I left for Arizona, KC and I decided when I got back we'd start eating better and healthier. I suggested that we pick new recipes to try from what I've pinned on Pinterest (healthier options of course). We settled on trying two new dishes each week. With there only being two of us, we figured there would be enough leftovers to last us the entire week. I was so excited to try the new recipes that I did them Monday and Tuesday...oops. I was going to spread them out over the week, but I just couldn't wait. This week we tried crock pot stuffed peppers and Italian chicken bake. They both turned out amazing! I'm already looking forward to next week's dishes. {You can check out all the food/recipes I've pinned on my Yummy Deliciousness board on Pinterest}

Italian Chicken Bake
Slow Cooker Stuffed Bell Peppers

If you've been following my blog, then you know I'm currently training for my second half marathon. I hate to say it, but I've been slacking big time in the running department. With our trip to Indiana and then my trip to Arizona right after it, I haven't ran for 2 weeks...sadness! I've got to get back on top of it ASAP because the race is in 25 days! Man, that came fast. I hate being so busy, but I've got to start back at it. Tonight I plan to run at least 5 miles no matter how long it takes! I'm so glad KC is so supportive of me and goes with me when I have to run late at night. I've kept up with my daily exercising, so I'm hoping my body hasn't forgotten how to run. Haha.

7 Things I Forgot About Arizona

1: The traffic. I forgot how bad driving during rush hour really is. People here are idiots and apparently turn signals are illegal! My commute to work should take 28 minutes, but with traffic in the mornings, it takes around an hour. Insane.

2: Arizona is dry! I didn't notice as much when I lived here, but the air is SO dry. I guess that's where the saying "It's a dry heat" came from. My skin has been dry, cracked, and flaky since I got here. Nevada must have more moisture in the air that I've gotten used to.

3: I can still get ready very quickly. I forgot how fast my morning routine can be when I've overslept and need to leave the house asap to get through the crazy traffic and make it to work on time. Thank God I'm not a makeup person!

Work got a new sign and I think it is fabulous!

4: It's Fry's not Smith's. I'm so used to calling the grocery store Smith's now (what they are in Vegas) that I've forgotten they're called Fry's here. I swear they are the exact same grocery, selling the same Kroger brand products, but apparently they wanted different names. Confusing!

5: It's hot here. Okay, so this time of year it's really not hot anymore. What I mean is, it's hotter/warmer than Vegas. I always just lump the two together when talking about the weather since they are "right beside" each other, but really Arizona (Phoenix to be precise) is normally 10 degrees warmer than Vegas most of the year. I'm a little jealous KC is home enjoying the mid to low 80's while I'm here in the low 90's. Either way, I'm glad we're done with the triple digit nonsense!

6: Gas is cheap! I forgot that Phoenix has cheaper gas than Las Vegas. I filled up this week at $2.99/gallon. Score! It's still $3.34 in Vegas.

7: The sunsets. I can't believe I forgot how beautiful an Arizona sunset is. Now that I think about it, I was always taking pictures of amazing sunsets when I lived here. I don't see many great ones in Las Vegas, but that could be because I work from home and I'm not driving home at sunset anymore.

Absolute Perfection

A Business Trip

So this week I'm back in Arizona to work in our office and help get all the extended tax returns done and filed by the tax deadline (Wednesday). Luckily, my older brother and sister-in-law live close to work (kinda), so I always have a room to stay in while I'm here. It's nice to see them and catch up on their lives and everything that's been going on. Being around people you know is way better than being stuck in a hotel room all by yourself. I also like playing fetch with their rambunctious dog when I get home from work; he keeps me entertained.

Day one (today) was interesting to say the least. Getting up before 7am was something I'm not used to anymore, but surprisingly, it wasn't too hard. Having to dress up for work was a little odd. I've gotten so used to working in my comfy clothes that I forgot how much of a pain that is! Work was even more interesting...at home, I have a routine/flow and everything I need is right there whenever I need it; exactly where I left it. In the office however, things weren't where I remembered them being, so I had to constantly bug my coworker and have her show me where things were. Another thing we found out was that I don't have a phone in my office now because it's sitting at my house in Las Vegas! Every time I went to grab the phone to make a call, I had to remember to go to another office and use someone else's phone. That will be annoying all week for sure!

I love coming back into the office (every once in awhile is fine). It's good to catch up with my boss and coworkers; also good to see some of my favorite clients. It's always nice to get away from Las Vegas for a few days, but I sure do miss KC while I'm gone. Being away reminds me of how much I love the life we have together in Vegas. How much I love cooking dinner together, watching our shows on Netflix and just relaxing together after a long, hard day of work. He's my best friend and I'm thankful he's always there for me no matter what.

I have this sign hung up at home

I'm hoping this week continues to go as good (and fast!) as today went. I know after tomorrow I won't be able to wait much longer to get back home to KC!

To Do Lists

If there's one thing I've learned in the last few years, it's that time flies and not only when you're having fun. We've all experienced it; you wake up in the morning with a list of things you want to do that day and before you know it, it's bedtime and only one or two things have been crossed off that mental list you made. Time flies and life gets busy.

For work, I keep a journal by my side at all times. I write down everything I need to do and then cross it off with blue highlighter as I complete each item. I'm beginning to think I need to do the same thing with my personal life. I have so many things I want to do; projects, places to go, books to read, etc. It doesn't help that my memory is that of a gold fish. If I don't write something down, I'll never remember to do it!

Here's just a few things I want to complete in the near future:
- Go to the eye doctor. I've been putting this off for so long. I haven't been in over 2 years and I'm on my last pair of contacts.
- Visit the wax museum on the strip. I've been wanting to over there since I moved here...over a year ago! It's about time to actually do it.
- KC & I's second year picture book. I got a free photo book on Shutterfly last year, so I complied all of our pictures from the first year of our relationship and made a book. I want to do one for each year, so I need to get the second one done before the third year ends!
- More blog posts. I really need to get on top of this blog. But again, life gets busy.
- Organize my office. I spend most of my time in the office since I work from home. I really need to set aside some time and get it organized and decorated just the way I want it.

Hopefully, writing these things down will help me get them completed!

Cheers to getting things done!
