Two Years Already!

Yesterday was our second anniversary. Hard to believe it's already been two years!! Seems like just a few months ago we were at my parents' house getting married. Time sure flies when you're having fun.

To celebrate, we went to Chattanooga, TN this past weekend for a 3-day getaway on Lookout Mountain. It was incredible! We got down there Saturday afternoon and stopped by the zoo (of course). The animals were pretty active, so it definitely didn't disappoint.
It was pouring rain all day Sunday, but we didn't let that stop us from continuing with our plans. We got up early and headed to Ruby Falls, a cave with the country's largest underground waterfall. It was amazing. I'd never been in a cave before and I must admit, I had to actively keep my mind off of the thought that if the rock above us gave way, we'd all be dead in seconds.
Next up was Rock City! The rain didn't make it any less beautiful or less fun. I already want to go back there. The trails were super fun, winding up, down, under, over, and tightly between rocks. And the views were to die for (when the fog cleared). We were completely drenched by the time we finished the trails, but it was so worth it! Once we finished, the rain was really coming down, so we decided to head back to the hotel to get dry and do the last activity the next day.

Monday morning, we got up and headed to the Incline Railway, a train car built to go up the side of the mountain. It wasn't raining yet, but it was coming. The ride was about a mile long and the further up we got, the more steep it became. It was pretty cool. Once at the top, we explored the area/neighborhood around there. It was really foggy up that high. The ride back down was just as cool and of course it started raining as soon as we got back down the mountain.

We headed home after Incline Railway and stopped for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. It was a really good weekend with lots of quality time with KC. Here's to lots of new adventures and lots more laughs!

Future Plans...

I'm a planner. I'm not good at planning, but I'm a planner. It stresses me out and I always end up waiting until the last minute anyway, but there's just something about it that I love. Maybe it's the excitement or anticipation of it, or maybe it's knowing how much fun it's going to be once the time comes.
Anyway, our TWO year anniversary is in ELEVEN days!! I can't believe it's been that long already. I've been talking about us taking a little weekend getaway to celebrate since January. Just last night I got the hotel booked for next weekend. I have a list of attractions and activities we want to do, I just have to find and buy tickets for them. I can't wait! We're going to head down to Chattanooga for a 3-day weekend. It's much needed and long overdue.
We've also been planning something else for this summer, but I can't tell you what it is yet. If all goes according to plan, you'll know by June. I'm a mixture of excited, anxious, overwhelmed, and maybe even a little scared. Haha. Time will tell!

On a side note: I've almost survived tax season!!

Tax Season Craziness

I should really just start this blog after tax season. It's been crazy busy around here...surprise, surprise. Working on tax returns almost all day at work and then studying taxation in my current college class at night (and early morning before work); I'm probably headed for a burnout, but let's hope and pray that doesn't happen until April 18th. HAHA

Daylight savings has also screwed up my entire daily schedule/routine. I live in the Central time zone and my work is located in the Mountain time zone, but in Arizona, who is the smartest of us all and doesn't do daylight savings (we should all really follow suit). So now I'm 2 hours ahead of the office and instead of my normal working hours of 9:30-5:30, it's now 10:30-6:30. Really!? My mornings gained an hour, that I've been wasting by sleeping in the last two days, and my evenings lost an hour. Which means, it's still dark when I get off work so daylight savings didn't save anything for me!
On the plus side, husband's birthday is Thursday! Poor guy has the unfortunate luck of having a birthday during tax season. LOL But I'm ready! I might have just ordered his present last week and it might not actually be here yet, BUT it's been shipped and says it should be here by tomorrow night. He's going to love it! I also finished up the decor yesterday morning and will be making his favorite, lemon cupcakes, today. He's headed out on Thursday for a two-day trip to Memphis with his sister and cousin to celebrate. Him and his cousin share a birthday. I'm sure he'll have a blast, meanwhile, I'll be here, doing taxes and studying. HA.
Well, until next time....whenever that may be!

More Than You Can Handle

Here I am again, already neglecting my blog. LOL But in my defense, a LOT has been going on around here.

They always say, God will never give you more than you can handle. And I always believed that until I came across another saying:
Now that sounds about right! Let me fill you in on what has been happening around here JUST since my last post:

  • The very day I published my last post, I found out my boss was diagnosed with leukemia. COMPLETE SHOCK. The shock didn't really wear off that entire week. I still can't believe it, but we have to stay focused on keeping the company running while he's away for treatment. Cancer is never good, obviously, but being diagnosed a week before tax season (he's also our CPA, for those who don't know what I do) made it ten times worse. So coming up with a game plan and keeping all our clients happy while he focuses on fighting this, has taken a lot.
  • That following week, we didn't have any hot water. None. Not even a little. The landlord had to send someone the next day and thank God he got it fixed.
  • The following Tuesday, we had a leaky toilet and the landlord sent the plumber back out to fix that. His name is Keith, we're getting to know each other well. haha
  • The next day, my dad got diagnosed with prostate cancer. Being already numb from the first shock, I still haven't fully processed this. Keeping hope that they'll be able to remove it and all will be okay. We'll know more next month.
  • Yesterday I passed my Intermediate Accounting I class. I've been working on it since early January. It was tough and took so much time and energy that on top of everything else, I'm surprised I passed the exam. Very thankful I did though. A weight was immediately lifted when I saw that "Passed" symbol!
  • And now this morning, I go to take a shower and we have no hot water pressure. Seriously!? I just can't win. I guess I'll be seeing Keith again real soon.
  • Oh and on top of all of this, it's been rainy. I don't remember the last day we didn't have rain and it's supposed to keep raining thru next week. We've seen more rain in the last 7 months, than I seen in the 7 years I lived in the Southwest. It's depressing and I'm over it.
So you see, there's no way God doesn't give you more than you can handle. It's all about trusting him to handle it for you. :)

Snowed In

Friday, we got our first snow/ice storm since moving to Tennessee. It's been about 7 years since I've experienced snow and way longer for KC. It started with freezing rain and then snowed about 3 inches on top of that. It wasn't nearly as bad as the Indiana snow storms I've experienced in my life, but boy did it remind me of why I moved out west in the first place!
If we could have, we would have been on our way back to Nevada as soon as the news mentioned freezing rain. If moving wasn't so expensive, we'd have already moved back, but that's another topic for another day.
This town apparently isn't used to snow. The entire city closed down Friday before the rain/snow even started. The mail wasn't even delivered. Saturday morning, the news mentioned that there were nearly 300 accident reports on Friday. That's insane! So, once KC got home from work Friday, we stayed home until Sunday evening when we decided to head to the grocery store for milk and eggs.
At the grocery store, we were informed that another snow storm is headed our way tonight and Tuesday. What!?! I guess we need to watch the news more often, but seriously!? The snow from Friday still hasn't melted and now we're supposed to get more?!?
My poor car has never experienced ice/snow before, but she's a trooper. I don't foresee us staying in TN all that long if this is how their winters are. Haha. Here's to hoping tonight and tomorrow isn't as bad as Friday!

New Year, New Home

Wow... it's been awhile. Life got busy in 2017 and now, here we are in 2018. I guess I stopped making time to document our lives, but I miss it and really want to get back to it. Maybe I'll be able to keep up with it now.

A lot has happened and a lot has changed, so let me catch you up on the big stuff:

  • We celebrated our 1st anniversary in April! I'm so blessed to be married to my best friend.

  • We took a lot of road trips last summer and explored Nevada to the fullest because...

  • We moved to Tennessee in late June! We thought it'd be better to be closer (within driving distance) to friends and family. More on that later.

  • I went back to school, finally! I'm attending WGU and working on finishing my bachelor's degree in accounting.

  • My little Etsy shop HerSassyCreations is doing so good and we started this year off with a bang!

So, life is still pretty busy, but hopefully I can get a post up at least once a week. Fingers crossed, but no promises! :)
